Phillip Silver has designed for theatre companies across Canada, including Neptune Theatre, Theatre New Brunswick, National Arts Centre, Canadian Stage Company, Young People’s Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Canadian Opera Company, Shaw Festival, The Grand Theatre, Edmonton Opera, Vancouver Opera, Manitoba Opera and Alberta Theatre Projects.

As Resident Designer at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre from 1967 to 1978, he designed set, costumes and lighting for over 70 productions.  Stratford Festival productions include Virginiawith Maggie Smith, Pirates of Penzance, Henry VIII, An Enemy of the People and The Merchant of Venice (1996). 

Canadian Stage Company productions have included Six Degrees of Separation, Proof and Ain’t Misbehavin’.  He has desiged Tuesdays with Morrie, The Sisters Rosensweig and Rose for Toronto's Harold green Jewish Theatre.  Most recently, he desinged sets, costumes and lighting for the Soulpepper Theatre production of The Price.  His Toronto set and lighting designs have earned him three Dora awards out of nine nominations. 

He has also served as a consultant on the design of theatre facilities across Canada and taught stage design at York University, where he was  dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts from 1998 to 2008.  He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2008.

He is currently serving as the President of the ADC.
