Live Online Audio Panel

Wednesday, June 10, 2pm ET (11am PT)

Richard Feren, sound designer, will lead this panel focused on Live Online Audio. This panel will focus on the technical challenges of preparing, mixing, and delivering audio online and within networks. As many in our industry start to explore live-streaming performance formats, sound designers will find that while many of our existing skills apply in similar ways, there is now a new challenge in the process: the audio path from multiple sources, through networks and videoconferencing platforms, into online streams. Since this is relatively new territory, few of us have acquired that much expertise yet, but many have some illuminating experience to share; so instead of a tutorial, this panel will enable sound designers to provide their insights, compare experiences, and draw some conclusions. Subtopics will include: internal audio-routing applications such as Source Connect, LoopBack, SoundFlower, etc.; possible strategies for mixing multiple sources online; an overview of network-based audio; methods to reduce network latency; and general tips on preparing a livestream from an audio perspective. Depending on the outcome of this panel, future follow-up panels may be scheduled.
