Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the ADC is offering a variety of workshops and webinars for members and non-members. Costs will vary by event and some may be subsidized for ADC members. Check the details for each event.

Lighting Design for BIPOC Performers - Information Sharing Session

Wednesday, August 5, 2pm ET (11am PT)

Please join us for an informal session in which we will discuss the lighting  of diverse casts. This topic is under-represented in many of our educational institutions, and many of us had to learn on our own.

 

Michelle Ramsay will lead this participatory session in which we will share what we have learned in practice  so far. This session is open to anyone - ADC and non-ADC members - and is not limited only to lighting designers. If you have any questions to add to the agenda, please email Michelle at

Photoshop Basics for Designers

Photoshop for absolute beginners and those interested in dusting off rusty skills. Discussion and demonstration of basic tools, layers, file formats, creative applications and more. This hands on tutorial is designed for you to play alongside so be sure you have Photoshop installed and can try things out for yourself as you participate.

Learn the basics of using QLab for Video in this hands on workshop. We will cover the use of the user interface, available features, cuing, mapping and more. To get the most out of your experience have QLab installed and ready to go on your own Mac computer. Learn more about QLab from the developers at www.figure53.com

Tuesday, August 18, 1pm ET (10am PT)

This is a 90 minute workshop led by Richard Feren, accomplished sound designer. This workshop is free for members and non-members of ADC.

 

Please join Richard Feren in a workshop directed to sound designers or anyone who would like to learn basic programming for sound in QLab. (QLab is a standard playback program for many theatres.) Please download QLab 4 and have it updated as you will work along with Richard to create a show file. https://qlab.app/

 

It’s also recommended to have some audio files on hand (AIFF or WAV formats recommended), including some that can be looped, as content for you to program in your own QLab workspace. This workshop will cover the basics of setting up a workspace, programming audio cues and fade cues, looping and devamping, MIDI command cues, and other details, up to an intermediate user level.

ADC Presents - Staying Warm: A Guide to Allyship in Action

Friday, August 21, 1pm ET (11am PT)

Hunter Cardinal and Jacquelyn Cardinal (https://www.naheyawin.ca/) will present an eLearning Seminar that provides an Indigenous perspective on allyship and some best practices.

Naheyawin offers sustainable, practical, Indigenous-based solutions for the improvement of diversity and inclusion in businesses, organizations and institutions through interactive workshop sessions, equity audits, and public engagement design and facilitation. 

They work alongside entrepreneurs, educational institutions, non-profits and government helping them to become stewards of Treaty and realize their capacity to create conditions of abundance in their organizations, and beyond.

Expand your photoshop skills to explore ways of integrating mixed visual elements into composite imagery for projection content, textile design, paint renderings and more. Intermediate Photoshop techniques are presented in a wokshop format, to maximize your learning opportunities it's encourage that you have Photoshop installed so you can follow along with the session.
